A month ago “Listening to the Earth Quake/Whakarongo ki te rū whenua” 🌏 attracted a sold out crowd of over 200 people (!!!) at Te Matapihi ki te Ao Nui Wellington Central Library!
What a treat to listen to Aurélien Buiron and Taonga Master Pūoro Tāmihana Kātene perform to ocean pulsations recorded by the SALSA network (SeismoCity.co.nz/SALSA) on Te Tai Poutini – Aotearoa NZ West Coast (John Townend) processed by Carmen Juarez-Garfias 🌿 for Matariki 🌟.
This performance is part of a project I’m working on with Aurélien Buiron on exploring:
🔵how data from the natural world can become sound,
🔵how each place on Earth has its own seismic signature,
🔵how these invisible movements can be translated into music.
